IF YOU DO NOT LIKE TEXT

or if you particularly like sound, I made the above audio-essay as a self-introduction to my master's program in the summer of 2011, and it's still pretty accurate (although not entirely redundant with the brief bio below.)

IF YOU DO LIKE TEXT

I was born in 1989 and farted around childhood and the internet for some 18 years before attending Stanford University. While pursing my B.S. in Symbolic Systems, which interdisciplinary study of consciousness involved philosophy, psychology, linguistics, computer science and (particularly for me) no small amount of interface design, I realized that I was far less interested in "advancing my field" or "starting a company", than I was in engaging with people about the broader human issues my studies brought up. I also realized that datavisualizations were a very big part of the very exciting future of journalism and I wanted to start making them as well as I possibly could. So I tacked on an M.A. in Journalism, and graduated in June 2012. Until recently, I put my skills to use fighting the corruptive influence of money on politics with the good people at MapLight.

I've also been up to many skill-and-character-and-career-building-very-professional-sounding things besides, and if you're really interested in everything I can do (illustrator! video! poetry! portuguese! janis joplin impressions!), please, look at my resume. Over there.

Also, I built this website and I'm damn happy with it.
